The Lancia Rally 037 proved that agility and clever engineering could still overcome four-wheel-drive power. Developed by Lancia, Abarth, and Pininfarina for Group B rallying, it combined a mid-mounted, supercharged four-cylinder engine with lightweight construction and instantly recognisable Martini Racing stripes. In 1983, drivers Walter Röhrl and Markku Alén helped Lancia defeat Audi to claim the World Rally Championship manufacturers’ title—the last time a rear-wheel-drive car achieved that feat.
