The 458 was a farewell to the pure naturally aspirated V8 mid-engine sports car — its successor, the 488, used turbos. That made the 458 the end of an era and immediately elevated its status among purists. Its 4.5L V8 produced 562 hp and revved to 9,000 rpm with a sound that became the benchmark for supercar engines.
